Hey guys! If you are a Fairy Tail fan and you read the manga...this is the post for you! If you do not read the manga, this may be a huge spoiler! So don't read further if you do not read Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest manga, because this post contains parts of the new spin-off manga.
That being said, A LOT has been happening in the FT 100 Year Quest, we know Natsu and the gang were sent off on a quest by the Elefseria, the first master of Magia Dragon, that will fulfill any wish to the gang if they seal the five God Dragons. Our happy-go-lucky gang decides to take on the quest and seal the 5 dragons, and they encounter the town where the Water God DRagon resides and get to befriend him. Also, they get trapped by a Dragon Slayer guild that intend to take the power of the Water God Dragon but as usual, Fairy Tail triumphs. Meanwhile, the Fairy Tail guild gets a particular new member by the name of Touka. To everyone's surprise, Touka is in love with Natsu and has joined the Fairy Tail because she is in love with Natsu, right? Well Gajeel's senses Touka is not a as honest as she seems and may have other motives for joining the guild. Gajeel and Juvia decide to investigate further and have unveiled (along with Jellal) that within Touka resides the White Mage that has stolen magic from the Water God Dragon.
Her motive is to turn the world into 'white' believing that too much power accumulation leads to evil. So we know she intends to turn Magnolia into white to prevent the Fairy Guild from accumulating 'too much' magic, but for what? Seems like she has already planned out for the Natsu and the gang to be stranded with the Water God Dragon and turn everything into white. As the White Mage Touka has an encounter with Jellal, the real Touka holds her back and is stopped by Gajeel. Meanwhile, Natsu and the rest are dealing with the Water God Dragon going on a rampage...talk about a disaster in the making. Little did they know that the Water God Dragon was set up by his own comrade, Caramille (a young child saved by the Water God Dragon), she had intentionally let the White Mage steal the power from him so he would not lose control of his power thus ending his life as well as that of the town he resides in. However, the White Mage stole the restriction of his power not the power itself, and making him a servant of hers.
In Chapter 17, Touka expresses her true motives for coming to Magnolia, and finding Wendy. She had hoped to find Wendy and have her remove the White Mage from dwelling inside her. Unfortunately the White Mage also had motives for going to Magnolia, and turning it into white, and controlling the guild. As Natsu and the others fight against the berserk Water God Dragon, the entire Magnolia has fallen under the control of Touka. In Ch. 19 Natsu and the gang are doing their best to fight the Water God Dragon, but all their efforts are for nothing, and are quickly losing footing in the battle. Natsu, being the reckless fighter that he is, takes on the dragon from a different standing point. The Water God Dragon has turned the sea upside down and pulls his magic from it, and Natsu decides to attack from the upside sea and land on top of the dragon. Little does Natsu know that his attack are mere child play to the dragon, and ends up being sucked into the whirlpool of the upside down sea.
Before he is completely taken over the water, a large scaly hand takes hold of Natsu. The creature speaks and tells the Water God Dragon that Natsu is his and will not let him have Natsu. To everyone's surprise, who is the mysterious creature that has taken a hold of Natsu? The concludes the end of Ch 19, and awaiting Ch 20. Any thoughts? Guesses? Personally, I think that somehow Igneel may not be completely dead and if he is dead Natsu was able to summon him. Perhaps the connection between Generation 1 Dragon Slayers and their dragons are able to summon their foster parents? I think somehow the connection between Igneel and Natsu may be so strong that he was able to connect back to his foster father and thus Igneel saved him. This is assuming that Igneel is the one that rescued Natsu, unless there are other dragons that are interested in Natsu. However, knowing that Hiro Mashima holds his characters dearly, I am going to assume Igneel is back! And if he is back, will the other dragon parents be back as well? Guess we will find out in the next issue!
Alright guys, as some of you may know, I am a big Fairy Tail fan. BUT I am a bigger shipper fan, and I will go down my ships because that's just what a good old fangirl does. Fairy Tail ended last year and with it many people were upset by how some of of the popular ships ended. As a fan, so was I because I wanted to see all the FT ships to have closure. There was one ship in particular that angered A LOT of fans, the Jerza ship. Jella and Erza always struck me as a strange ship because of the history that the two characters have.
Both of these characters have a painful past, since they were forced to work as slaves. Both children obviously bonded by the trauma and treatment that they received from their suppressors. Jellal has shown to be a kind boy towards Erza and it is shown in the anime that the girl takes a liking to him. Especially since Jellal gave her a surname when she did not have one. It was then hinted that Erza started to have feelings for Jellal in the series, it may have started as a infantil crush and grown into a deeper love through out the years. Unfortunately, for Jellal, he was being manipulated by what he thought was the ghost of Zeref. If brainwashing was not enough for him, he took over the slave system where Erza and himself grew up, and manipulated the slaves to work twice as hard by 'treating them better'. Obviously, he did a lot of horrid things during the time he was brainwashed and was cruel to Erza to the point he threaten her; thus forcing her to leave the land. Later on Jellal breaks away from the state he was in by Wendy and does not fully remember everything he did but he does know that he was not a very kind person while under the control of 'Zeref's ghost'. This is the part where I as a fan feel conflicted over the relationship between Erza and Jellal. Jellal was kind to Erza before being controlled but later became a ruthless cruel person, and even though he commited a lot of crimes Erza still forgives him and loves him. It makes me question as if their relationship could ever become real or healthy. Jellal continues to carry the burden and the guilt of what he did commit in the past; even though Erza confronts him and tells him to keep on living. However, he does not feel worth of being her lover because of his past.
A particular moment where this occured is the 'kissing scene' between the two characters. The intensity of the moment and the mood truly highlighted the love between the two lovers but took a different turn when Jellal pulled away from Erza. Being the gentlemen that he is now, his excuse was that he had a fiance and could not kiss her. As fans, we know that was a lie because he does not. The fiance excuse was to, what I believe, an excuse to not hurt Erza's feeling by not reciprocating his feelings for her. In truth, I believe he still continues to carries his scars and sins and does not feel worthy of Erza. Also, it makes me questions Erza's feelings on how he treated her when he threaten her during his brainwashing transition. I know is not 'really' his fault, but doesn't that make Erza feel a little traumatized to be threaten by a person she cares deeply for? Does she truly trust Jellal without a doubt, even after everything he put her through and did to her friends? It makes me question as to whether this couple could actually function without any challenges and if they will ever be truly together or just a tragic romance. Afterall, Erza does not have the fondest memory of her childhood or her parents (for those fans that have the read the manga, you know what I mean). Personally, I feel that these characters are not bound to have an actual relationship because of the history between them and the fact that Jellal continues to remain neutral in their romance. I also doubt that the author, Hiro Mashima, will bring these guys together because it may be a conflicted relationship because we know their relationship has had a rough past. So what do you guys think? Feel free to comment or send me a message and don't forget to follow My Otaku Anime! Stay tuned for the next post or if you want to see a specific FT send a comment or message.
Season 9 of the Fairy Tail series came out last year 2018, and with it a lot of new feelings. For those fans that have not read the manga I will say that this article may contain some spoilers for you. If you are both a manga and anime fan, keep reading.
One of the most disappointing ships in Fairy Tail has been the 'Nalu' couple. In the manga, both Natsu and Lucy end up very single and continue to have a normal friendship. After all the hints and flirtatious moments both of these characters have, there continues to be no romance development between the two. Why? Well for starters the author, Hiro Mashima, has no intention of making them an official couple. When the manga ended he intentionally did not play the matchmaker game with the 'Nalu' ship because he felt his fans would be disappointed with Natsu being in a relationship with Lucy or with Lisanna. Mashima-sensei felt the necessity to keep Natsu single would be a safe play, since he did not want to anger with Nalu and Nali shippers.
Yikes! Apparently the 'shipping' wars has gone a little too far and causes Mashima-sensei to hesitate in bringing Lucy and Natsu (or Lisanna) together. Afterall, many fans were in an uproar since all the pairs (with the exception of Levy and Gajeel or Evergreen and Elfman) have not been officially confirmed. Fan satisfaction is not the only reason why the Nalu ship won't sail its sail, but rather out of convenience. Once a favored anime couple has established their relationship, it is soon expected that they will settle down and have children. Right? That's what we fangirls want after all! Darn it, I want to see some Nalu babies before I die! However, Mashima-sensei can't continue the story of Natsu and his friends generation because it is expected for the next generation of Fairy Tail members to continue the story. A good example is the Naruto franchise, Hinata and Naruto established their relationship and what do we get next? Boruto! The story must go on with the adventures of Naruto and Hinata's children and let's not forget Sasuke and Sakura's daughter Sarada. Therefore, it is expected that the offsprings of the Fairy Tail member's will continue the legacy.
I do not think the author is ready to let go of the Fairy Tail members and move on to the next generations. Also, Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest manga was released not too long ago and it continues to be inadequate time for the Nalu couple to get together. I am sure the spin-off will continue to thrive for a couple of years and that may put the idea of them together on hold for a really long time. The new release of Eden's Zero may also impact the bi-weekly spin-off since, Mashima-sensei is working on both the new manga and overlooking the spin-off. Some fans may not bat an eye but it takes a lot of work and effort to publish one manga chapter, and I am sure the author does not want to to take the time to make the 'perfect romantic confession' between Lucy and Natsu (at least not yet, right?).
Aside from Mashima's reason to avoid the Nalu ship, there is also character development. Natsu is a heroic member of the Fairy Tail guild but he lacks the maturity to comprehend a relationship. Relationships are built upon trust, love, and responsibility even though he has a strong bond with Lucy, he lacks the understanding of how their relationship could turn to a possible romantic one. As a character, he shows very childish behavior and often misinterprets flirtatious signals. He may act perverted on some occasions towards Lucy but he has not shown to be the romantic type of guy to swoop Lucy off her feet (with the exclusion of the time he sailed a Magnolia tree down the waterway for Lucy when she was sick, but I doubt it was meant to be romantic). Inexperience may be a major contributor as to why he does not take a step forward to the next base and hit off. Afterall, he was raised by a dragon and focused most of his energy on quests as well as searching for his foster father. Perhaps the lack of understanding of romance and relationships is what Natsu lacks, but it raises the question as to when we will see him have a change of character development.
In the new spin-off series, we do encounter a possible love rival for Lucy, the white mage Touka. She is infatuated with Natsu and claims to be love at first sight. That may be the case, but I doubt Natsu will return her feelings in a heart beat as well as to question his relationship with Natsu. More likely she will be the factor that enhances the love confession between Lucy and Natsu or be the power wheel to realize their relationship is more than platonic. Either way I hope to see more development between these two characters as well as a reaction from the Touka, Natsu, Lucy love triangle.
