My Hero Academia was one of the hottest anime movie of summer 2018, and what was the hottest fuss over MHA? Well, I just had to watch the movie for myself and see what made everybody crazed about. Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to watch the movie in theaters, but I did get to watch it from the comfort of my own home just recently. Now that I have slurped my soda and ate my popcorn, I can say the movie was an interesting watch but was expecting a little more it.
The movie takes place on a man-made island called 'I-Island' where brilliant scientist reside and research Quirks. All Might is invited by his friend Dave Shield (a well-known scientist), and All Might decides to bring Izuku along with him. It just happens to be that other of Izuku's friend are also at the island, taking on part jobs, invited to attend, or tagging along with friends. We also get the intro of a new best girl and daughter of Dave, Melissa Shield that is also quirkless like Izuku. The villain of the story is a terrorist, Wolfram, that attempts to take over the island and kill the residents, while the pro-heroes, scientists, and the bourgeoisie are held hostage at a private party. Lucky for Izuku and his friends, they were not able to make it to the party and are able to assist the pro-heroes in stopping the villains. Plot twist to the story is that Dave had actually planned for the incident to happen to steal back an invention that maximizes a person's Quirk, this was done so the headset did not land in the wrong hands. Dave assumed he had been working with actors to 'fake' being villains BUT turns out the villains were actually working themselves and had planned to steal the invention from the beginning, and ends up kidnaping Dave. To make a long story short, Izuku and his friends attempt to fight off Wolfram and assist All Might in rescuing Dave. For the first time ever, All Might and Izuku throw a duo punch (that part was the best part of the entire movie) together and defeat the bad guy. Hooray, Hooray! The story ends with Dave reflecting on his actions and realizing the future looks bright with the young heroes and his daughter that will continue on their legacy.
Not going TOO much into detail, the movie did have a lot of action packed moments, and I can say it was outstanding! The beginning started off well with a quick background on All Might; however, I was expecting a little more on his background. All Might's history in my opinion, was very brief and that disappointed me a little, I was hoping to see a little more.
There was one scene in particular that I had seen trending over and over again was the dance scene between Bakugou and Uraraka.
I looked all over this scene in the movie and it never happened. Did I watch the wrong version? Nope! Apparently, this scene is a fake. As a fan, I was looking forward to watching the dance scene of these two but it is fan made and it never happened. To clear up the mix up, it never happened, sorry fangirls. That doesn't mean there is no hope for this ship right?!
Overall, I can say the movie is worth the watch, the fights are epic. The best part is seeing All Might team up with his mentor and just go at it. That was the ultimate sensei and student punch that only comes around so often, and it will be forever ingrained in our otaku memories.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, romance anime is sure to make its way into our otaku hearts and make us go doki doki. As a fellow weeb I have had my fair share of experience watching many, many, and I mean MANY romance anime. Gotta love the sweet romance and comedy breaks that only anime can bring. Because we all know how cute it is when anime characters confess their feelings to each other and have that completely adorable red face and stuttering. Kinda hard to compare to real life romance series or movie, am I right? So, I want to share with my viewers the top 5 romance comedy animes you must watch this Valentine's Day (whether it be with your special someone or by yourself, either way you gotta watch it!).
1. Kamisama Kiss
This is one of my favorites, Kamisama Kiss is truly a sweet anime to watch. Kamisama Kiss about a young high school girl by the name of Nanami. She has the unfortunate luck of being kicked out of her apartment due to her father's gambling and lifestyle problems. During the night she is left to wonder the park alone, she encounters a man stuck on a tree because he is being pestered by a dog. She helps the man, Mikage, get rid of the dog and in return for the favor, he gives her his home. She accepts it grateful and realizes that his home is actually a shrine. At the door, she is greeted by the spirits of the house and Tomoe, the familiar of Mikage. The sweet girl soon realizes the man she saved was the Earth Deity and has bestowed his blessings on Nanami to be the new Earth Deity of the shrine. At the beginning, she refuses to accept her new role; however, she finds herself working hard to be a deity worth of the title. Slowly but surely, she also starts to fall in love with Tomoe, and he also begins to have feelings for her. However, it is a taboo for humans and spirits to be in a relationship.
Overall, the anime is romantic and has comedy breaks to entertain. It is a rather sweet anime, and will keep you wanting more with each episode you watch. The development between the two characters also makes this anime stand out, both characters begin with a mutual feeling of unfriendliness and turns into a blossoming love.
Harem animes tend to have the reputation of fan service and ecchi genre tagged to it. However, Nisekoi does not fall into either of those. Even though it is a harem anime, the storyline is a sweet romance for the ages to come and it also is very very funny. The protagonist of the story, young Raku, made a promise years ago to his childhood sweetheart that he would marry her. Together, both children made the promise to marry one another and exchanged a locket and the key to unlock the pendant, as adults they would open the secret within the locket. As a young high school boy, Raku has kept his promise and continues to wear the locket. During a fateful meeting on one school day, Raku bumps into a beautiful blonde girl that causes him to lose his locket. Soon he realizes, the young blonde beauty is his classmate and also the daughter of an American gangster leader by the name of Chitoge. To his luck, Raku's father has made arrangements with Chitoge's father to 'fake' going out to make peace between the two gangs. However, both Chitoge and Raku dislike each other and Raku already has a love interest, Kosaki. As the story progresses Kosaki and Raku obviously have a crush on each other but more and more girls from his childhood years appear with keys to his locket, along with Kosaki and Chitoge.
Nisekoi is unlike other romance harem animes because of drama of who is the girl that hold the key to Raku's locket. Also, each girl truly falls in love with Raku as the nice guy that he is, but the chain of events lead Raku to the one and only girl that is meant for him. This anime will have you rooting and picking for your favorite ship. Personally, it was tough for me to pick a specific ship because I thought each girl held her own unique charm.
2. Kiss him, not me
Kiss Him, Not Me is a reverse harem with the protagonist being a major otaku girl, Kae Serinuma. At the beginning of the series Kae is a chubby sweet, yaoi fangirl and is not noticed by the boys because of her looks. However, during an emotional turmoil from her favorite yaoi series, Kae becomes very depressed causing her to lose tremendous amount of weight. She soon finds herself transformed into a gorgeous girl and becoming the center of attention of the hottest guys in school. Soon she is the center of attention of the boys' interest but she would much rather watch the boys be in a romantic relationship among themselves and not her.
What I enjoyed about Kiss Him, Not Me is the many possible pairings in the series. I am not just talking about Kae being paired up with the different boys. Among the boys is a girl that has romantic feelings towards Kae. The series is open to yuri, yaoi, and straight ship for the viewers liking and the dynamic of the possible relationships is what makes this romance comedy stand out.
4. Lovely complex
Unlike other romance animes, lovely complex holds a unique standing on love between a tall girl and a short guy. Koizumi is the tallest girl in the class and stands out like a sore thumb; meanwhile, Ootani is the shortest guy in the class and well...enough said. The two characters have strong personalities that complement one another but it may seem so at the beginning of their romance. Since both stand out due to their height, they are known as the class clowns and soon both of them decide to help each other.
What makes this romance comedy a Valentine's Day must see? Both characters are unlike other protagonist that are 'picture perfect', a tall and a short boy falling in love makes it interesting to watch. Also, their ridiculous act makes it the worthwhile to watch as you will be laughing at loud at their daily high school lives.
5. The quintessential quintuplets
Thank goodness for 2019, because at the beginning of January 2019 the Quintessential Quintuplets began to air. This is a new anime that is considered to be a 'romantic comedy'. Though personally, I would also consider it a harem...why? Because the harem is composed of the quintuplet sisters! The entire season is not completed but it matters not, it still a really good anime choice to wait this holiday. The story follows the main male protagonist, Uesugi, the tutor and senpai of the Nakano siblings (quintuplet sisters). The Nakano family has recently moved in the area and the father is looking to hire a tutor for his daughters to tutor them. The girls are at the brink of flunking a grade and is up to Uesugi to ensure the girls pass high school. However, his tutoring experience and relationship did not start off the right foot, and the girls are actually against having him as their tutor. Dealing with different personalities and interests it is up to senpai to ensure the girls graduate or will they end up falling for him?
The anime series is still pretty fresh and there is still a lot of plot to be developed through out the season. The only clue the audience has received is at the beginning of the anime, it is safe to assume Uesugi has married one of the girls. One of the girls and himself is telling the story of how it all began. Besides that the first episodes has been about Uesugi getting the girls to work with him and getting to know them personally, and individually. However, I would recommend watching it and giving it a shot.
